Dr. Amy Simon is an Associate Professor and the William and Audrey Farber Family Chair in Holocaust Studies and European Jewish History at Michigan State University. Dr. Simon’s research foregrounds empathy as a historical method. Her work investigates victim-perpetrator relationships during the Holocaust, the “grey zones” of behavior that characterized that time, and the world of Holocaust victim perceptions and emotions. She has also recently become involved in researching, publishing, and speaking about Holocaust pedagogy, and she regularly gives public lectures, educational workshops, and trainings on historical and contemporary antisemitism.
